More digital SLR

One of my housemates opened up her piano today, and i just had to use it :) i decided to use it as an opportunity to experiment with depth and aperture, and then used photoshop to change the images to black and white, and also tweek the contrast.

over all i was pleased with these shots, since there very different to my normal style, and hope to experiment with this again using my film camera..

But mainly im happy with these images because it is the first time i'd successfully used the manual settings on my SLR, and in a difficult environment due to the lack of light, making it more challenging.

Although it took me alot of attempts to get the image light, i eventually tackled it by turning the aperture high, and a very high ISO.

Next i hope to try this on my film SLR as a challenge for myself.

book research

after hunting down books in the library i came across this one, which is one of the best ive found for learning SLR settings and techniques...

i learnt so much that i never understood before, and it was explained so simply... so i would highly recommend this to anyone who's learning to use a SLR for comm tech or for general use :)

from this book i particularly learnt not only about aperture, shutter speed and ISO, but more importantly, what they do, why and how to use them effectively.

shutter speed and long exposure

heres a few long exposure shots i took experimenting with shutter speeds ranging from 10 seconds to 30 seconds, and found that they were quite successful, especially whilst trying out torches and lasers.

i found these images very successful although one thing i would like to learn to change is to make the images not so orange, which is something i will have to find out.

from doing this i learnt that the higher the ISO, the more light that gets in, but due to a low aperture, this caused the sun glare. in future il make sure to double check all my settings...

Digital SLR- aperture

I borrowed a digital SLR from college to help me learn about the settings and how to use manual, before trying it out on my film SLR, and heres some of the shots i took whilst experimenting with aperture.

From doing this i learnt that the smaller the aperture, the larger the depth of field but the less light that gets through, so in future il try be aware of this when doing my photography.

my pinhole cameras

using two different size tins and a gravy pot, i made pinhole cameras by making sure they were completely light proof, and then creating a small pinhole in the side with a needle.

i tried them out round college so i could quickly develop the in the darkroom.

Although most of my images weren't successful, i found that the hardest thing was getting the timing perfect enough to create a decent exposure, but heres some of my most succesful images.
