experimenting in the darkroom

on my next trip to the darkroom i decided to experiment with creating my own effects and experimenting with different techniques, but also to try out the different light settings which is something i hadn't paid attention to..

Heres some of the materials i took with me...
clear folders, scissors, paper and card
i decided to use the clear folder pocket to create ineresting effects by scrunching it up and placing it over the photo paper for exposure...
With the paper and card i decided to make a range of frame and dodging tools..
Another technique i wanted to try was scrunching up the photo paper before developing, which wasnt as successful as id hoped..
I tried out double exposure on a few of my images; this is done by exposing an image as normal, and then placing it into the developer, but instead of carrying it on to the fixer tray, i then again place it under the exposure machine, so it creates a interesting effect.
Regulaer image done with white light..
paper frame...
Test print...
final image; regualer white light
Magenta light; although this is over exposed the detail is much stronger than most of my images..
regualer image with white light and acetate
this was done by exposing the image for half a second, then moving it along, exposing it for another half a second, and so on

Simialer process to making a test sheet, but with ripped paper

Heres two images from a film that was very under exposed, so i used a poor quality image to experiment with exposure and the light options.

the above image was exposed using the regular white light at one second, and came out much too exposed, but the bottom image was done using the magenta light at half a second exposure, and not only is the lighting much better, the detail is incredible compared to alot of my images, which is why im going to use the magenta light for most of my images from now on.
Here i experimented with a collage effect..
Two of the same images, but one using acetate

the acetate has given this image a very antique feel has it has done with most of the acetate covered pictures..
Magenta light, but over exposed
framed with acetate

Framed
another type of frame
under exposed with layered exposure, and moving paper..
an attempt to make a dodging tool..
